Love of Irish Dance

There was a day a long time ago…

… driving my daughter, who was 6 at the time, to scout out a new dance activity. We were doing this because the other dance classes were boring, or maybe she needed something with more energy to focus on. There we met Ms. Sheila, a beautiful teacher with a light in her eyes. Caitlin lined up with the four other little girls and learned the first steps to a basic jig. The music came on and the girls bounced side to side all with the joy of dancing. I asked her if she wanted to go back again and she excitedly said yes.

Little did I know that day would lead to fifteen years of competitive irish dancing! Caitlin danced with Ms. Sheila until we moved to Florida where we quickly found Ms. Maureen – Fiery red hair and a personality to match… and a wonderful teacher.

My daughter is now a senior at university and although she has not danced for the past two years, I still love it.  It’s a part of our Irish heritage taking discipline, strength, and grace. We sat through endless hours of reel and jig music sitting through practices, performances and traveling to competitions.

I will always cherish those memories!
